Help with Oxigen tuning

Indlægaf joukeder » 21 feb 2008 10:40

Dear colegues,
I am using a biocomfort 24 Kw with Lambda oxygen control.
I have problem tuning the device. I get large swings in oxygen and therefore efficiency of the boiler. I can clearly see that high oxygen content and co-inciding high lux reading the boiler temp goes down.
When oxygen is low boiler temp increases rapidly.
How CAN I BETTER CONTROL THIS?
Regards
Jouke

Hi Jouke

It's not looking good
Are you sure your burner plate is placed correctly

What are your settings ?
It seems to me that when it is burning with high effect, the amount of pills is far to high , giving you 0 in oxygen and zero in light.
Is it burning Ok without automatic oxygen control switched on?.
Nut first of all check your plate placement.

Thanks for your feedback. I think the burner plate is ok, But I will take the burner out to double check and come back to you. Also with the settings.
And I will try with auto burning with Oxygen controll off.

Hi Jouke

All your settings except pellets low and high seems to be within range.
pellets low and high units, is percent time the screw is running, they are changed by the automatic oxygen control, and therfore probably out of range because your oxygen is not working good right now..
Your screw is giving your 1500 g per 6 min ie 15 Kg per hour. ( I gues that you have controlled this)
1 Kg is about 4.8 KWH effekt.
Your low setting is 0.55 % of time ie 0.55*15/100=0.0825 Kg /hour = 0.0825*4.8=0.396 KW
Your High setting is 5.9 % of time ie 5.9*15/100=0.885 Kg /hour=0.885*4.8=4.248 KW.
You have a 24 KW burner so your high setting should be about 24 KW and your low about 3 KW.
That would give you low pellets = 3/4.8=0.625 Kg /hour ie 0.625/15 = 4.17 percent
High pellets= 24/4.8=5 Kg/hour= 5/15 = 33 percent
so your low pellets should be about 4 and high about 33.
That is the basic settings, but they shout be adjusted acordingly to your chimny draft/blower settings, so you get the optimal burning.
Instead of all this calculating, you can use the autocalculation in the control, this will automatic calculate the low and high setting from your pellets /6 min. and your chimney draft setting.
This would give you some quite good starting values too.

Probably there are something wrong with your oxygen control, so switch that off and then just watch the oxygen level in the first step. When you have a correct burning, you can try to witch that on again.
The correkt bruning would be so high pellets settings, you can achieve without smoke from you chimney.
So test you chimney smoke by 10 percent burning and by 100 % burning and adjust low and high level acordingly to the smoke you see. But first put in f.ex 4 and 33 as starting values.
In order to have the oxygen control working you need a tight boiler, so all air is coming by the blower.
Also the oxygen sensor have to be calibrated, and be placed a good place.

Hope all this writing can be usefull and my english is understandable.
and feel free to ask further.

By the way, did you check your burner plate, that it is placed at the litle shoulder. Because if not, the air intake is blocked by the pellets and this could give your all the trouble with the oxygen and light values.

Best regards
Hilsen TN

Dear Hilsen, (Is that your correct name?)
I really appreciate that you take all the time to write about my problem in detail. I am sure we will now kill it.
To be sure the problem did not always exist. It started on a particular day, and I have been unable to discern what causes the change.

Today I needed to do my monthly cleaning maintenance of the boiler so I took your direction to look carefully at the burner plate to heart. I took the burner off the boiler and disassembled it. I found that the burner plate was positioned correctly but that about 5 of its holes had clogged up with Debris and corrosion.
So, I took the opportunity to clean all, including the burned and ventilator with pressured air. The burner/boiler is in operation since Dec. 12, 2007

I also noticed that I did not correctly copy all parameters, so please find below the corrected values
Blowerlow 5
Blower high 15
Blower ignition 15
Blower pause 15
Blower cleaning 30
Output kw 24

Min boiuler temp 50
Required boiler temp 65
Mx boiler temp 70
Max drop boiler temp 30
Pellets low 2.76
Pellets high 9.9 (these last two change all the time of course)
Force running auger 0

Chimney draft 3
Max drop shaft temp 80
Gain P-led 25
Gain I-led 100
Gain D-led 10
Fine tune low 100
Fine tune High 100
Cleaning interval 10
Cleaning time 4

Max time in pause mode 0
Pellets in pause mode 13.2
Blower in apuse mode 100
Pause difference 0

Max time ignition 6
Pellets in ignition 32
Output ignitioin 80
Photo sensor level 10

Oxygen control 2
Oxygen level low output 15
Ogygen level high output 8
Oxygen regulation 100

Auger amount min 600
Auger amount/6 min 1500
Auger amount max 1600

Do you see anything incorrect here?

Meanwhile, my boiler is burning again now and I keep my fingers crossed. I will let you know soonest.
I did not do the step of switching off oxygen and going to automatic control yet as I did not want to change too many things at one time before seeing the effect of my cleaning.
I think my oxygen probe is mounted correctly. I can send you a picture if you want.

Regards
Jouke

LOL, yes that's what you get when you try a foreign language>
Not that English is my mother tongue, I am actually Dutch living in Ireland since 1994.

Anyway, I think the cleaning of the burner plate combined with Playing with the Oxygen regulation is showing some results.
I had this at 100% initially. Now I first put it in 50% then on 100% and then on 40%.
http://www.beara.org/photo/stg2.jpg

You see that in the middle section there are more swings, and that the third section at 40% seems best.
I'll keep it like this for a while to see what happens.
Regards
Jouke
